From the 1798 grist mill to the popularity of special events, Backus Heritage Conservation Area is a unique blend of natural and cultural heritage. Take a leisurely walk on the grounds and be intrigued by the conservation education centre and heritage village. Take a hike amid the shade of wooded trails, observing wildlife and foliage around you.

The Heritage Village museum houses a number of fascinating exhibits pertaining to the many interesting aspects of the Long Point Area. Discover storefront exhibits of businesses from the 19th century and learn about the many shipwrecks of Lake Erie at Long Point.

 

Conservation Education Centre is an interpretive centre where visitors can learn about the plants, birds and animals that inhabit Backus Woods and Long Point. A series of exhibits will introduce you to the region's rich natural history and waterfowling traditions.

The area has become an environmental and heritage learning centre, developed by the Long Point Region Conservation Authority.
A wide selection of specially designed education programs are offered to school groups at a variety of grade levels. There are also badge programs for Brownies, Guides, Cubs and Scouts.

Bring your family and friends for a day or a vacation. Backus is the perfect place to stay with facilities for both tent and trailer campers and group campsites.
The region's rich natural history and waterfowling traditions are introduced to visitors through a series of exhibits in the Conservation Education Centre. Community groups may rent the education centre for meetings, seminars and presentations.
For those interested in recreation, Backus offers walking and cross-country ski trails, picnic pavilions and a supervised swimming pool.
