Algonquin Provincial Park stretches across 7,725 square kilometres of wild and beautiful lakes and forests, bogs and rivers, cliffs and beaches. It is a canoeist's and camper's paradise in its vast Algonquin wilderness region.
Algonquin Provincial Park was established in 1883 and is Ontario's first and possibly best known Provincial Park.
From the rocky shores you can hear the calls of loons in the distance, gaze at the sunset shadowing a solitary pine, and watch a beaver creating a rippling wave across a pond.
You may be fortunate enough to witness wildlife. Things you may see at Algonquin Provincial Park are a fish splash, a moose raise its head to stare at you as you paddle by or stand high above a cliff watching a screaching raven survey the landscape of lakes, forests, streams and bogs from the horizon.
Camping and Recreation at Algonquin Provincial Park
Algonquin Provincial Park offers a vast Interior of maple hills, rocky ridges, spruce bogs, and thousands of lakes, ponds and streams.
The only way to explore the interior of Algonquin Provincial Park is by canoe or on foot.
There is also a second section of Algonquin Provincial Park which is along the 56-kilometre stretch of Highway 60. Here you can enjoy camping at one of eight campgrounds, hike one of 14 trails, take part in extensive education programs, and visit Algonquin Park superlative Visitor Centre and the Logging Museum.
