Natural Features at Chutes Provincial Park

If you travel on Highway 17 between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie, you will come across Chutes Provincial Park which is the only one on in this area.

Chutes Provincial Park is located near the North Channel of Lake Huron. Chutes Provincial Park is situated on the Aux Sables River.  Chutes Provincial Park was named after a chute that once diverted logs around the waterfall. 

The Aux Sables River offers visitors great views of rapids and waterfalls within Chutes Provincial Park.
History of Chutes Provincial Park
The region of Chutes Provincial Park historic importance as a logging centre is still seen in the composition of the sand along the beach.
Picking up a handful of sand wil reveal bits of bark, which were the scrapings of thousands of logs that came through the Chutes Provincial Park river rapids.
Animals and Wildlife at Chutes Provincial Park
At Chutes Provincial Park the salmon swim up the Aux Sables River to spawn.  There are birds and small animals which frequently visit the area as well.

Outdoor activities at Chutes Provincial Park include great canoeing experiences.  Chutes Provincial Park is a good place to start your canoe trip if you wish to explore the Spanish River or North Channel waterways.

Hiking in Chutes Provincial Park offers a moderate trail that leads to lookouts at the falls and the Seven Sisters Rapids.
Winter at Chutes Provincial Park presents the opportunity to go cross country skiing, snowshoeing or winter hiking in the Provincial Park.
