Springwater Provincial Park
Natural Features at Springwater Provincial Park
Springwater Provincial Park area was once a wasteland due to logging in the park area.
Today, Springwater Provincial Park is an all-season Provincial Park located on the outskirts of Barrie, Ontario in the Midhurst area.
It is a wonderful retreat in nature for hikes, wildlife viewing or cross country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. It is also an enjoyable setting for family picnics with playgrounds and open field areas.
Springwater Provincial Park's name comes from its natural springs which are the headwaters for the
Nottawasaga River system. The springs within the park form small creeks and streams that travel through Springwater Park.
Plants and Wildlife at Springwater Provincial Park
The forest consists of second generation red and white pine with pockets of birch, maple, and oak. Tulip trees also grow at the extreme northern limit of their range.
Springwater Provincial Park is mainly forest covered and contains a variety of plants and animals usually found in south central Ontario.
Springwater Provincial Park gives park visitors the opportunity to see and learn about Ontario black bear, wolves, owls, coyotes, foxes, wild turkey and other types of birds in the wildlife viewing display areas.
These animals live and have been brought to Springwater Provincial Park because of injuries they have had in the wilderness or thier daily living was affected by humans in a drastic way. Therefore, they cannot be released into the wild and require human care.
