History of Driftwood Provincial Park

Driftwood Provincial Park has a landscape that has changed by past events.  The Driftwood Provincial Park area was flooded in 1950 when the Des Joachims hydroelectric dam was opened which submerged the farmland and a small lake. 
A fire covered the Driftwood Provincial Park forest in the southern part of the park in 1975.  
Natural Features of Driftwood Provincial Park

An esker was formed due to the building of Des Joachims hydroelectric dam in 1950.  Driftwood Provincial Park is situated on a riverside and is populated by aspen, poplar, jack pine trees.  Blueberry bushes thrive in the ashy soil as well.

Animals and Wildlife at Driftwood Provincial Park

Wildlife in Driftwood Provincial Park consist of deer which stroll through the provincial park.  There are 200 types of bird species within Driftwood Provincial Park that have been spotted.

Outdoor Activities at Driftwood Provincial Park

Since Driftwood Provincial Park is located on a riverside, this presents the opportunity to canoe river routes on both sides of the Ottawa River.  There are two Ontario routes which lead to the northeastern corner of Algonquin Park.

While hiking in Drftwood Provincial Park you can expect to have the choice of three trails nearby which range from 1 km to 9.5 km at a moderate level.

Winter at Driftwood Provincial Park gives outdoor enthusiasts an opportunity to enjoy nature.  Driftwood Provincial Park is gated in the winter, but you can still enter on foot for hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing experiences.

Driftwood Provincial Park is locatednear Stonecliffe, Ontario on the riverside of the Ottawa River.  This region is located with the Ottawa Valley.
