Natural Features at Darlington Provincial Park

The Durham region in southern Ontario hosts Darlington Provincial Park which is located between the cities of Bowmanville and Oshawa.  

On the west side of Darlington Provincial Park is McLaughlan Bay and it is separated from the colder depths of Lake Ontario by a barrier beach. The combination of the water with the Darlington Provincial Park terrain, provide habitat for a wide variety of waterfowl and wildlife.

From the bluff you can watch for migrating birds such as the warblers in spring, waterfowl and raptors in fall or the resident terns and plovers.  
In winter there are outdoor opportunities to skate on McLaughlin Bay or toboggan down the hills in the nearby area.
History of Darlington Provincial Park

There is a  tiny cemetery and log cabin at Darlington Provincial Park which is all that remains from American settlers to Lake Ontario’s shore.  

Darlington Provincial Park occupies former pioneer farmland on the shores of Lake Ontario.

Animals and Wildlife at Darlington Provincial Park

There is a variety of wildlife present in Darlington Provincial Park.  Squirrels and white tailed deer are very common in Darlington Provincial Park.  The wetland areas provide wonderful views of waterfowl and other birds, which prove to be more noticeable during spring and fall migration.

For the outdoor enthusiast who enjoys water and beaches, Darlington Provincial Park provides great opportunites to enjoy these natural outdoor features.  Canoeing is a great choice on McLaughlin Bay.  Darlington Provincial Park also offers a barrier beach that offers warm shallow water.

There are visitor programs at Darlington Provincial Park that change throughout the year which include walking tours, children's programs and campfires in the evening.

There are some trails in Darlington Provincial Park that vary in length and offer nice scenery of the provincial park and region.
